I won't sell you an approach on principle: I take the one that serves your project, your budget, and the team that will take over the tool after me.

Finally, going to production is part of the work, not some vague option tacked on at the end. This portfolio is deployed on Hostinger through a scheduled server routine after human review and merge. Migrations are controlled, environment variables and secrets stay outside the code, and logs and queues are monitored. When the application goes live, I know what is happening and can respond quickly if needed. You do not inherit a black box no one dares touch, but a documented project you can hand over to another developer when the time comes.

An application handling real data deserves to have its speed and security taken seriously. On performance, Laravel offers everything needed to handle the load without over-engineering: application cache, configuration and route caching, queries optimized to avoid cascading calls to the database, and queues to offload from response time anything that can wait. On a back-office, this translates into screens that stay responsive even as the data piles up; on a public-facing part, into Core Web Vitals you can aim to keep in the green.

On security, Laravel protects by default against the most common web vulnerabilities: SQL injection through Eloquent's prepared statements, CSRF attacks on forms, automatic escaping in views against script injection. This baseline doesn't excuse a lack of rigor — validating incoming data, fine-grained access control, and isolating sensitive information remain my job — but it avoids the long list of mistakes you find in cobbled-together applications. When your tool handles personal data, this framework matters as much as the features themselves.

Then there's longevity. A business tool isn't delivered and forgotten: it lives, features get added to it, and its technical foundation has to keep up. Laravel releases one major version a year with a clear upgrade path, which makes version bumps predictable rather than painful. In practice, I can maintain your application over the long term, apply security patches, and evolve it without rewriting everything each season. That's what separates a lasting investment from a throwaway project.

I'd rather be straight with you, because picking the wrong tool costs you budget for nothing. Laravel excels when your project has genuine application logic: user accounts, roles, structured business data, automations, an API. If that sounds like you, it's probably the best balance between development speed, robustness, and cost of evolution. The ecosystem is mature, I can find a proven building block for most standard needs (authentication, billing, access management), and I don't reinvent the wheel on your budget.

Conversely, if what you need is a showcase site or a blog you want to manage yourself on the content side, Laravel would be a sledgehammer to crack a nut. There, WordPress will give you more editorial autonomy for less, and I'll tell you so plainly. Likewise, for a simple landing page, standing up a Laravel application makes no sense at all. The right instinct isn't to start from the framework: it's to start from your real need and work back up to the tool that serves it best.

There's also the case of taking over existing work. Many Laravel projects already exist but have accumulated debt: little or no tests, an old version, frozen dependencies, gray areas around security. I can step in on those, but I always start with an honest audit — structure, debt, tests, security — and propose a prioritized action plan before touching the code. No spectacular, risky big-bang refactor: we stabilize first, modernize gradually, and every step leaves the application in working order.

  • The upfront cost is higher than an off-the-shelf CMS: it's justified by the application logic, not by a simple showcase.
  • Taking over a poorly maintained Laravel project (no tests, old version) calls first for an audit and a stabilization phase before any new feature.

Laravel isn't a universal answer. Here's how I frame the choice relative to WordPress (for content) and Symfony (the other major PHP framework), so you can quickly see which way your project leans.

Choose Laravel if…
